Fencing Industry Australia (FIA) is proud to recognise National Safe Work Month this October, reinforcing the importance of safety awareness and best practice across all areas of the fencing and gate industry.
As part of Safety Week, FIA is calling on contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, and installers to review their on-site safety procedures and ensure compliance with current standards and legislation. From machinery operation and manual handling to the installation of automated gates and high-risk structures, safety must remain a core part of every project.
“In our industry, safety is non-negotiable, every worker must go home safely at the end of the day,” said FIA General Manager, Steve Mazur. “Safety isn’t just about meeting compliance – it’s about leadership, accountability, and care for our teams and communities.”
Throughout the month, FIA will share resources, articles, and expert insights to help members strengthen safety practices and reduce risks in the workplace. These initiatives are part of FIA’s continued effort to support a culture of safety and professionalism within the fencing and gate sector.
As part of its ongoing commitment to safer worksites, FIA will also release the draft Gates and Automation Code of Practice for stakeholder feedback this month, providing an important opportunity for industry participants to contribute to the development of practical safety guidance for automated and powered gate installations.
FIA encourages all fencers to take time during Safety Week to:
- Review site safety plans and hazard controls
- Discuss safe work practices with their teams
- Participate in toolbox talks or refresher training sessions
- Promote a culture where everyone takes responsibility for safety
Safety is everyone’s business – not just during National Safe Work Month, but every day of the year.
