Gate Safe Australia has officially launched its national program of educational safety workshops for the gate and automation industry, following the successful delivery of its first in-person sessions in Sydney and Melbourne.
The initiative, based on the respected Gate Safe UK model, is tailored specifically for Australian conditions, with training content grounded in the requirements of Australian Standards, the Work Health and Safety Act, and real-world industry challenges.
The inaugural workshops welcomed a strong turnout of installers, fabricators, automation specialists, and asset managers, all seeking to better understand their responsibilities when it comes to safety and compliance in the field of gate automation.
Key topics covered included legal duty of care, the application of relevant standards such as AS 4024 (Safety of Machinery), AS 3000 (Wiring Rules), AS 1170 (Structural Design), and the newly developed Gate Industry Australian Code of Practice for Gates and Automation 2025.
Participants engaged in practical discussions, risk assessments, and the use of real case studies to identify and manage the risks associated with unsafe gates.
Following the overwhelming response, Gate Safe Australia will now be offering monthly workshops in-person across major cities, alongside a flexible online format for remote and regional professionals.
“We’re seeing too many gates installed without full awareness of the risks involved. Our workshops aim to close that knowledge gap — to help ensure safety isn’t left to chance,” said Michael Pretsel, spokesperson for Gate Safe Australia.
Gate Safe Australia encourages all industry professionals to take part – whether you’re an installer, manufacturer, facility manager or consultant – and become part of the movement toward safer, smarter gate installations nationwide.
