This custom-designed sliding gate, built with traditional mortice and tenon joinery, features hand-cut cross bracing and morticed slats at the base and has been entered in the 2025 Australian FENCING and GATES Awards.
Designed to complement the property’s stone pillars and fencing, the gate measures 4.5 metres wide and 1.9 metres high, creating a bold architectural statement while maintaining a seamless connection to the home’s style. Fully automated, it enhances privacy and security, offering a refined balance of form and function for the residential driveway.
Constructed from 140x65mm and 66x30mm Design Pine supplied by Bowens Hastings, the gate features IBFM hardware, a TOUSEK Pull T24 sliding gate motor supplied by GlobalAccess, and was finished with Dulux Weathershield. Woodworking adhesives were supplied by TimbaTech.
The client sought a design that would provide a secure area for young children and pets, while complementing the new fencing and pillars. Safety measures included a battery backup to reduce the need for manual operation during power outages, reinstallation of the footing to prevent unintentional rolling, and two sets of physical stops at the open and closed positions to ensure the gate remains safely on its tracks.
Entries for the Australian FENCING Awards close on 31 August, with Finalists announced at the end of the year and Winners presented at the Gala Awards Dinner during the 2026 Australian FENCING Conference in Melbourne in March.
