BlueScope named 2025 Steel Sustainability Champion

BlueScope has once again been honoured as a Steel Sustainability Champion by the World Steel Association for 2025, marking the second consecutive year the company has received this recognition. The award was presented to BlueScope’s Managing Director and CEO, Mark Vassella, at a special general meeting held in Sydney.

This accolade acknowledges BlueScope’s strong commitment to sustainable development and active participation in industry-wide sustainability initiatives.

To achieve Champion status, companies must meet strict criteria, including alignment with a sustainability charter, comprehensive reporting on environmental, social and governance performance, submission of life cycle inventory data, and recognition for safety or innovation.

In 2024, BlueScope was recognised for excellence in safety and health—particularly in the areas of safety culture and leadership. This included the integration of Human and Organisational Performance principles across the business, and initiatives such as the 7 Safety Fundamentals, Empowering Safe and Healthy Teams, and Small Group Activity Teams.

BlueScope’s continued recognition as a Sustainability Champion reflects its long-term commitment to safety, innovation, and sustainability—supporting the steel industry’s transition to a more responsible future.
